About Us
Dare To Change conducts an annual program titled 'Reading To Change the World, ' which involves setting up library corners in rural and township schools that lack the resources to establish a library. Once these library corners are established, reading programs are facilitated throughout the year to support learners in their reading journey. The primary objective of this initiative is to combat illiteracy among primary school students, which is a significant issue in South Africa, with 78% of Grade 4 learners struggling to read to remember , making them functionally illiterate. Our ultimate aim is to eradicate the poverty of literacy that children across South Africa face.

Our Vision

Our vision is to boost the literacy rate of African children, with a focus on African literature, to foster empowerment and cognitive development. By leveraging our core pillar of literacy, we aim to achieve this goal.

Our second pillar aims to enhance education by increasing children's literacy rate and establishing library corners. Our mission is to uplift the standard of education in both rural and township communities, ensuring equal access and opportunities for all children to achieve success.
Our initiative, focused on the third pillar of our vision, activism which aims to cultivate young minds and nurture social consciousness. Our ultimate goal is to empower the youth to initiate positive change in their communities and beyond

Reading To Change The World

Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3
Our plan involves identifying primary schools without libraries or access to supplementary reading material and initiating literacy workshops with educators to introduce the library corners. Furthermore, we aim to foster a love of reading and books among learners by introducing educational extracurricular activities to support the library corners.
The Extramural Library Corner Activities include:
Setting up book clubs to encourage reading.
Conducting Spelling Bee Competitions aimed at enhancing literacy by learning new words to prepare for reading new books.
Organizing Reading Contests to encourage learners to read more.
Hosting Reading Camps during school holidays.
Providing a Librarian Training Program for grade 7 RCLs to learn how to maintain and operate a library corner, thereby enabling them to establish and manage their own library corners.
